Thoughts from the big chair...

Well, it's May and that means that it's time for our annual Games meeting. Every year at this time we bring out our favorite non-productive programs and demonstrate them for the user group. I don't know anyone who has bought a system with the idea of using it for game playing. Whenever someone asks about buying I always ask them what are they going to use the computer for. The standard answers are "word processing, home finance, internet and world wide web, and especially education." No mention of games! I firmly believe that a little recreation time never hurt anyone and occasional game play may have some benefit, which I'll think of some time before the next meeting. :) Anyway, if you have a favorite game and would like to bring it in to demonstrate please do so as we will have plenty of systems to load them on in the Mac lab. If anyone wants to demo an Apple IIe, c or GS game let us know and we will make arrangements to bring one along.

We had an interesting and well attended main meeting last month on icon graphics. This is a great way of dressing up your system to your liking, not someone in the Apple research center. I must apologize for my error in last month's president's message. Luckily one of our members wrote the correct info so that no one was surprised at the meeting. I did manage to get the change into the article for the Web page. I guess that I was anticipating a good time in San Antonio and not taking time to get the right info (yes I do know what the telephone is for!).

The Apple Store within a Store at CompUSA is doing very well according to all the news articles. Apple is making money and selling a lot of new systems. Our membership chairwoman, Aasta has gone down there and handed out business cards and newsletters to Apple shoppers. She has gotten a very good reception by the CompUSA staff and the customers. Dave Angell reports an increase in phone calls due to her efforts, and we warmly welcome any new members to the group and hope that we can serve your needs and make you a more productive Apple and Macintosh user.

That's all I have this month and I hope to see you at the game! (in front of the screen of course)

John Gentile
