Thoughts from the big chair...

Our iMac and Mac OS8.5 demo last month was a great success! I want to thank my daughter Lisa and her boyfriend Chris for allowing us the use of her computer for the demo. I don't know if we sold any but there was a lot of interest in the things it could do and how to connect peripherals to it. The demo of 8.5 was also of interest and we saw things like how the new appearance control panel worked and how the new Sherlock find could find any file or any content on any of your disks or any subject on the internet. The neat thing about the Sherlock Internet find is that you can install plug-ins for the various Internet search engines such as Lycos, Excite, Yahoo etc. There are many Sherlock plug-ins available for download from the various companies so that you can customize your search to suit your needs. And congratulations to our winners of the tee shirts - Larry Coutu and Aasta Johansson, and to Dick Horton who ended up with the grand prize of the Mac OS 8.5 CD. (Actually it was Pauline Coutu who won but couldn't use it so she traded with Dick - so they both won!)

The Nominating Committee has just about finished its work. There is only one position what has not been filled and that is the club secretary. If you would like to get involved with the RIAG and help with our meetings please give your name to Dick Horton, Joe Menard or anyone on the board of directors.

Do you have your Christmas wish list yet? I do and it keeps getting longer and more expensive. Remember though we do have our annual Christmas party and auction coming up so you can either pick up some cheap gifts or sell some items for a little spending money. I'm bringing a box of Apple II stuff that was given to me on a visit to the Retro Computing Society Museum. It seems that a gentleman was there trying to donate some hardware, software and books but the Apple II stuff was "too new" for the RCS. Talk about being in the right place at the right time, so now I have that box and I would like to see some of our Apple II people take it off my hands!

As far as the party is concerned we will publish the "what to bring" list so that we can have our fun and eat too! It is always a well attended meeting with food, drinks and computer bargains for all. What more could you ask for? I hope to see you all there. And if I don't see you I want to wish you all a very merry Christmas or Happy Chanukah and a happy New Year.

John Gentile
