Randy's Story

(Interview with Russ Severs, RIAG member)

    by Paul Gerstenbluth (ArieFound@aol.com)

Frightening. A child's experience in a hospital can be a scary event. Fortunately we have Randy to help us.

Randy is a large stuff dog who knows his way around hospitals. He does this by being a good patient. Randy has his blood drawn, his body X-Rayed plus he goes through the various medical tests though-out the hospital. Randy helps young children in their adventure from the Doctor's Office to the different places in the hospital.

Randy is a Saint Bernard stuffed dog who is treated royally by real doctors and nurses in the Emergency Room, Orthopedics, Laboratory and X-Ray departments.

More then a Stuffed Dog

In the book, Randy's Story, we see pictures of real nurses and hospital personnel. You can watch them help Randy though his testing and treatment in the hospital. Randy's Story is written for English, Portuguese and Spanish children.

Randy's Story was written by our previous RIAG President, Russ Severs and his wife who is a registered nurse.

Russ Severs told me that over 1,000 Randy's Story books were produced on his Mac Performa using ClarisWorks' Draw module. The 88 page book, Randy's Story, has interesting pictures with information text and is written for eight to ten-year old children. Russ Severs used his trusty Epson Color Stylus Printer for making the Randy's Story book with pictures more vivid for young readers.

Thanks go to Russ Severs from Randy Enterprises (netman@ici.net). Russ shows us how to put the Macintosh computer to effective use for helping young child's first entering the hospital. In the seven chapters of the Randy's Story book, Randy shows us how he braves his hospital experience.
